The Story
These pin cushions feature the delicate embroidered panels by designer Rieko Oka. The patterns inspired by natural elements where she lives, use subtle, muted primary colors. She creates the patterns by hand, so the designs have an imperfect symmetry.
The base of the pin cushion is made from beech wood, cut, smoothed and polished to a neat rounded bowl.
Based in Hokkaido, the northern part of Japan where the beautiful landscape can go from colorful Spring to deep, deep snow in Winter. Every season can be experienced richly, and it is this that Rieko Oka expresses through her patterns and designs.
